Holistic and Wellness Therapy at Viva Rehab
Where Healing The Body Supports Healing The Mind
At Viva Rehab, holistic and wellness therapies are not add-ons to your treatment. They are a clinically integrated part of your recovery, designed to help regulate your nervous system and support the deeper therapeutic work happening in your individual and group sessions.
Why Integrated Wellness Matters in Recovery
Most people arriving at a treatment center have spent months or years living in a state of heightened stress. Whether the presenting issue is addiction, depression, anxiety, or trauma, the body carries the impact of these experiences just as much as the mind does. Chronic stress and unresolved trauma dysregulate the nervous system, keeping the body locked in survival mode even when there is no immediate threat.
This is why traditional talk therapy alone is often not enough. At Viva Rehab, holistic and wellness therapies are woven into your phased approach to treatment from the start. They are scheduled alongside your individual therapy, group sessions, and clinical work, not offered as optional extras. This integrated approach builds practical coping skills to manage triggers, cravings, and everyday stressors, while ensuring the benefits of each modality reinforce the others, giving you a more complete foundation for lasting recovery
Our Wellness Therapies
Breathwork
Breathwork sessions teach structured breathing techniques. Clients learn to shift from a sympathetic (fight-or-flight) state into a calmer parasympathetic state. These techniques become practical tools that clients can use independently, both during treatment and after they return home, to manage anxiety, cravings, and emotional overwhelm in real time.
TRE (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises)
TRE is a body-based modality that activates the body’s natural tremoring mechanism to release deep muscular tension held as a result of stress or trauma. Clients often report a noticeable reduction in physical tension and an increased sense of calm following sessions. For trauma clients in particular, TRE provides a way to process stored stress without needing to verbally revisit difficult experiences.
Yoga
Yoga at Viva Rehab is adapted specifically for clients in treatment. Sessions focus on nervous system regulation, breathwork, and gentle movement rather than athletic performance. For clients processing trauma, yoga provides a safe way to rebuild the connection between mind and body, develop present-moment awareness, and learn to recognize and release physical tension that is often linked to emotional distress.
Sound Therapy
Sound therapy uses specific frequencies and instruments to promote deep relaxation and support nervous system regulation. Sessions provide a space for clients to experience a meditative state without needing prior meditation experience. This can be particularly helpful for clients who struggle with racing thoughts, insomnia, or difficulty sitting still in conventional mindfulness practice.
Fitness
Regular physical activity is a core part of recovery at Viva Rehab. Exercise improves mood, reduces stress, and helps regulate sleep, while building structure and discipline that supports the wider work of treatment. Our fitness sessions are adapted to each client’s ability level, so no prior experience or fitness baseline is required.
Muay Thai
Muay Thai combines physical exercise with mental focus and discipline, offering a healthy outlet for stress and difficult emotions. Sessions at Viva Rehab are led by an experienced trainer and adapted to all fitness levels. No prior experience is needed, and as a traditional Thai martial art, it also offers a grounding connection to your surroundings during your time in Chiang Mai.
When Wellness Therapies Are Introduced
Holistic and wellness therapies are integrated into your treatment from the first week and continue throughout your stay. In the early stages of treatment, the focus is on stabilization: helping your nervous system settle so that you can engage more fully in therapy. As you progress into deeper therapeutic work, particularly if you are addressing trauma, these therapies provide ongoing support to help your body process what is being explored in clinical sessions.
Your weekly schedule includes a structured mix of individual therapy, group therapy, and wellness sessions. The specific combination is tailored to your personalized treatment plan, so the balance of modalities reflects your recovery goals and clinical needs rather than a one-size-fits-all timetable.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is holistic and wellness therapy?
Holistic and wellness therapy at Viva Rehab encompasses a range of body-based and experiential modalities integrated into your clinical treatment program. These include yoga, breathwork, TRE (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises), sound therapy, and bodywork. Together, they help regulate the nervous system, release stored physical tension, and support the deeper work happening in your individual and group sessions.
How is the wellness program at Viva different from a spa or wellness retreat?
The Wellness Program at Viva Rehab is a clinically integrated component of residential treatment, not a leisure activity. Every modality is coordinated with your primary therapist and aligned with your treatment plan. The goal is not relaxation for its own sake but nervous system regulation that supports your recovery from addiction, trauma, depression, anxiety, or other mental health conditions.
Can I choose which wellness therapies I participate in?
Your wellness program is tailored to your personalized treatment plan. While your clinical team will recommend a combination of therapies based on your needs, your comfort level and preferences are always taken into account. No one is required to participate in any modality they are not comfortable with.
