LinkedInPaolo Veneracion has spent more than 16 years helping people recover from addiction, and he knows the territory from both sides of the therapy room: he is in long-term recovery himself. That combination — specialist training in trauma-informed care and firsthand experience of what recovery asks of a person — defines how he practices at Viva Rehab Thailand.

Trauma sits at the center of Paolo's clinical practice. Many of the people he works with arrive with two problems that feed each other: a substance use disorder, and the unresolved trauma driving it. In his experience, the two rarely travel alone — a mental health struggle of some kind accompanies most addictions — and lasting recovery comes from treating the person as a whole rather than chasing the substance in isolation.
As one of the group's EMDR practitioners, Paolo works from what actually happens in session rather than what a manual predicts. Clients bring real questions and real resistance, and he meets them where they stand — a habit formed over sixteen years of watching what genuinely helps people change.
Paolo holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's in Mental Health and Trauma Counseling, with intensive additional training in trauma-informed therapy.
Paolo's sixteen-plus years span residential and intensive outpatient treatment. Before joining The Dawn Group, he led the therapy team as head therapist at a treatment center in the Philippines, then managed the treatment program at an international rehabilitation center in eastern Thailand. Having worked both as a frontline therapist and as the person responsible for an entire program, he understands a client's path from the day they arrive to the months after they leave — and what has to happen in between for recovery to last.
